I didn’t know how much I needed to unplug until I did.
What started as a 10-day social media detox became a portal into something deeper: the realization that my life—and business—was getting hijacked by platforms I never fully agreed to serve.
I’m a wellness coach, a permaculture educator, a spiritual mentor. I teach sovereignty. Yet here I was, unconsciously checking apps multiple times a day, craving likes like little dopamine sugar hits, and confusing visibility with value. Because I’d been lied to. I was told this was the way for the Digital Marketer.
The “Matrix” Wears Many Masks
It’s easy to point to the finger at the obvious hooks and say “that’s the matrix.” But let’s be real: we’ve built our own tiny matrixes out of curated feeds, emotional labor in the DMs, and nonstop content hamster wheels.
So I went dark. Deleted the apps. Put my phone in airplane mode for hours at a time. Traveled. Hugged friends. Photographed without an endgame. Painted by number. Let silence stretch long enough to hear my own thoughts again.
And something beautiful happened…
I Felt Whole Without an Audience
I started to notice the little things: the absence of noise, the texture of the wind, the way a deep breath after sunset felt like a ceremony.
I didn’t need to document every moment. I didn’t need to prove anything. And I certainly didn’t need to perform wellness in order to live it.
Two Books That Rewired My Brain
During this detox, I read two powerful guides:
- 📕 Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport – a masterclass in intentional tech use. He reminds us: attention is our most valuable currency.
- 📘 How to Market Without Social Media by Lia Haberman – a wake-up call that YES, it’s still possible to grow your brand with deeper, slower, and more aligned methods.
Between the two, I realized: I want to run my business the same way I want to live my life. Slow. Soulful. Smart. Sacred.
What’s Changing (and What’s Not)
- ✨ I’m not leaving social media (yet)—but I am changing the way I use it. No more daily grind. No more compulsive comment checking.
- 💌 I’m shifting toward email, blog, and Pinterest as my core platforms. This means real conversations, not dopamine loops.
- 🎁 I’ll be creating deeper content and offering more free resources like my Detox Guide, Ritual for Energy & Clarity, and re-fueling my foundation courses series.
This isn’t just about less screen time—it’s about reclaiming our energy, our intuition, and our peace.
