Jewelweed Salve – Sister Ivy Relief

When poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac unexpectedly become part of your adventure, I believe the answer is not fear—it’s respect. These wild plants have an important role in nature, and one of the beautiful lessons of herbalism is learning to work with the plants around us. That’s why I never head into the woods without nature’s companion remedy: jewelweed.

Our jewelweed is hand-harvested from the creek that winds through our East Tennessee farm. Soon after harvesting, it is gently infused over low heat for many hours, allowing the water to slowly evaporate while preserving the plant’s botanical qualities. Each batch is crafted with patience and intention, honoring the traditions of slow herbal medicine-making.

The finished jewelweed oil is blended with richly infused calendula, chamomile, and plantain oils, then combined with pure beeswax to create a smooth, nourishing salve. A touch of lavender essential oil is added for its gentle botanical aroma and skin-loving properties.

For me, herbalism is more than making products—it’s about cultivating a relationship with the plants that care for us. As I prepare each batch, I spend time in gratitude for these remarkable herbs and the comfort they have traditionally offered for generations.

Ingredients: Jewelweed-infused olive oil, calendula-infused olive oil, chamomile-infused olive oil, plantain-infused olive oil, beeswax, and lavender essential oil.

This salve is handcrafted in small batches using traditional herbal methods. It is intended for external use only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Creators Note: I created this salve with love, respect, and over a long period of time – the first design was from Jewelweed from alongside our creek, but then not utilized until I had an outbreak – the worst I’ve had. I never reacted to Poison Ivy before moving to TN, despite growing up in Virginia, and spending every summer in the woods at camp.  But I have had it bad now, and my respect for this plant is 10-fold! I prefer to bathe thoroughly after time on our forest edges where I know she dwells… than to use this salve in haste afterwards! But when I DO miss a spot in washing off the hidden oils, I have a remedy on the spot. And I wish that for you!
